A Great Life Lesson We Can Learn From Oprah Winfrey

One of the recent quotes that I read and really liked was by the popular television personality Oprah Winfrey, which went something like this:

Don’t waste your time in the race looking back to see what the other guy is doing. It’s not about the other guy. It’s about what can you do. You just need to run that race as hard as you can. You need to give it everything you’ve got, all the time, for yourself.

It’s a reminder that we only to need to focus on ourselves.

A lot of times, we start to put unnecessary pressure on ourselves because we compare our own lives with someone else’s.

It’s not wise to do that because:

  • The other person has been brought up in different circumstances
  • Has a different nature
  • Has different strengths and weaknesses
  • Has different desires

Everything about the other person is different than you.

Then why should you compare?

Remembering that we are in our own race is a very comforting thought.

It takes away the negative pressure that we may feel sometimes.

Do you know why race horses wear blinders at the side of their eyes?

It’s because they have peripheral vision and can run off the course unless their vision is focused.

We all need to be exactly like those horses with blinders.

Only focused on our own course.
